Regimen Guide

hi there!

Below are the instructions for our basic 3 step Malezia regimen. This is good for treating acne and / or “fungal acne” as it’s known colloquially on the internet. As always none of our products contain known nutrient sources for malassezia, which has some overlap with other microorganisms like cutibacterium, staphylococcus, and pseudomonas

For best results, please follow the instructions below as precisely as possible!

Great care and attention to detail was placed during the write up of this guide, so make sure to read everything. Any deviation from the steps below can negatively impact the final outcome of results including the use of makeup or other skincare products.

Step #1: Cleanse

Dispense

A generous amount of Malezia 100% MCT Oil in the palm of your hands and gently massage your facial skin for up to a minute.

After approximately 60 seconds, gently splash your skin with warm water from your sink. If you are in the shower, allow a gentle stream of warm water to run across your face.

Follow this up

With a non-medicated, gentle, fragrance-free cleanser with a pH around 5.5. Some deviation in pH is okay — just make sure it isn’t extremely alkaline or acidic.

We are currently in the process of creating a cleanser, but in the meantime recommend Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser. For other options, please see this list and pick an item that contains NO asterisks (*).

You should cleanse your skin for approximately 30 seconds to ensure all the MCT oil has been removed. If you are not using MCT oil before rinsing with water, reduce cleansing time to 15 - 20 seconds.

After 30 seconds

Of cleansing has elapsed, rinse thoroughly with water and pat your skin with a paper towel. Never rub.

step #2: moisturize

To damp skin

Apply anywhere from a pea-sized amount to half a finger’s worth of Malezia 5% Urea Moisturizer. This will depend on personal preference — f.c. is a moisturizing fiend and likes to apply a generous amount :p

Allow the moisturizer to completely dry before moving on to the next step.

Step #3: treat

Apply

A fingertip’s worth OR LESS of Malezia 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide Gel all over affected areas of the face (places you experience breakouts).

Unlike moisturizer, benzoyl peroxide should not be used generously! This will cause unnecessary irritation and is not more effective. We repeat, do not use more benzoyl peroxide than is recommended. It is crucial that you only apply a fingertip’s worth — MAXIMUM.

If you are not applying benzoyl peroxide to your entire face, use even less! A pea-sized amount should do.

How often should I do this?

The 3 steps above should be done once per day. Preferably at night.

During the day simply cleanse OR thoroughly rinse with just water (depending on your preference), and follow up with the Malezia 5% Urea moisturizer.

We recommend using sunscreen during the day given that benzoyl peroxide can increase your sensitivity to the sun. We recommend using Cotz Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40. For the melanin deficient (i.e. if you have very fair skin), use Cotz Face Lighter Skin Tone SPF 40 instead.

For more sunscreen recommendations

Please see this list and pick an item that contains NO asterisks (*).

If you are not seeing the results you want after 3 weeks, you can increase the usage of benzoyl peroxide to twice a day. Make sure to only use a fingertip amount each time.

Give this regimen at least 6 weeks before calling it quits. It is very important to stay consistent and give it time! Benzoyl peroxide is an active ingredient that may have a “purging period” where the frequency of breakouts increase. This is due to the expression of lodged material deep within the pilosebaceous unit.

NOTE:

Purging does not always occur and depends on the severity of acne. If you experience it however, please know it will eventually pass after a couple of weeks so hang in there! You got this. :)

And that’s it! We wish you nothing but the best on your journey to clear skin. Feel free to share your before and afters using #maleziaskin on instagram!

Warmly,

The Malezia Team
